Join in the fun at LifeLab Kids this summer as we launch our new Therapeutic Social Groups designed for neurodiverse children and adolescents!

We are offering social groups in both our Ferndale and Clinton Township locations. Social groups are tailored to provide a safe and inviting space for children and adolescents with developmental disabilities to develop social and life skills, build new friendships and discover their interests.

Sounds and Scribbles

Ages: 3-7 years old
When: Fridays 2:30pm-3:30pm June 21-August 16 (9 weeks)
Leaders: Rubina, OTR and Kylee, SLP
Cost: $315
Description: This group will target phonological awareness and foundational skills needed in prewriting skills, utilizing a multi-sensory approach. Participants will receive follow-up activities each week to continue their progress at home

LifeLab Littles

Ages: 4-6 years old
When: Tuesdays 10:30am-11:30am June 18-July 23 (6 weeks)
Leaders: Erin G, Recreational Therapist & Program Assistant
Cost: $210
Description: This play-based group will focus on age-appropriate social skills, such as sharing, turn taking, cooperative play, and friendship skills within a structured and fun environment.

Vex Robotics

Ages: 5-9 years old
When: Thursdays 4:45pm-5:45pm June 20-August 15, no session July 4 (8 weeks)
Leaders: Miles J & Aaron H, Technology Instructors
Cost: $280
Description: This group introduces robotics and programming through VEX labs and explores the scientific method and components of a robot. Participants will learn how programming pertains to robotics. VEX123 is an interactive programmable robot that allows students to practice in computer science and computational thinking in a fun and interactive way.

Lil’ Chefs

Ages: 8-12 years old
When: Wednesdays 10:30am-11:30am June 18-July 9 (4 weeks)
Leaders: Molly S, Recreational Therapist & Program Assistant
Cost: $150
Description: This cooking group is a fun, immersive, and hands-on experience in the kitchen with peers. Participants will learn the basics of kitchen safety while cooking fun and simple recipes.

Minecraft

Ages: 8-12 years old
When: Tuesdays 4:45pm-5:45pm June 18-July 23 (6 weeks)
Leaders: Miles J & Aaron H, Technology Instructors
Cost: $210
Description: This group leads participants in learning how to play Minecraft with peers. Participants will learn to work together to build, craft, mine, and collect resources and even try to slay the ender dragon! They will also learn how to respect their peers’ belongings in the game and learn how to be a good team player.

Roblox Coding

Ages: 8-12 years old
When: Thursdays 6:00pm-7:00pm June 20-August 1, No session July 4 (6 weeks)
Leaders: Miles J & Aaron H, Technology Instructors
Cost: $210
Description: This group teaches participants how to create games using Roblox Studio. They will learn how to work together as a team of programmers to cooperate and make a game together. Participants will learn how to make their own individual games and assist peers with their game creation by sharing ideas and providing feedback.

Game Composition Lab

Ages: 11-14 years old
When: Wednesdays 2:00pm-3:15pm June 19-July 24 (6 weeks)
Leaders: Nick S, Technology Specialist & Kelsey M, Music Therapist
Cost: $260
Description: This group will allow participants to experience the creation of different classic arcade games. They will work with our Technology Specialist to code the game and our Music Therapist to create the soundtrack and sound effects. Types of games include Pong, Asteroid Destroyer, and Caveboy (platformer).

Community-Based in Ferndale

Out & About Exercise Edition
Ages: 15-18 years old
When: Thursdays 10:30am-11:30am June 20-August 1, no session July 4 (6 weeks)
Leaders: Molly S & Erin G, Recreational Therapists
Cost: $210
Description: This indoor/outdoor exercise group will be hosted in the community. Activities will rotate between exercise and outdoor active games at nearby parks. Participants will learn how to utilize community spaces to stay active in the summer months. Clients and leaders will meet at each location

Clinton Township Location

AAC & Coordination
Ages: 3-7 years old
When: Tuesdays 10:15am-11:15am June 18-August 6 (8 weeks)
Leaders: Amy D, OTR & Jackie K, SLP
Cost: $280
Description: This group will target communication skills using AAC programs (LAMP, TouchChat, TD Snap, etc) and functional coordination through use of engaging, play-based, multi-sensory activities. Participants will receive follow-up activities each week to continue their progress at home.

Music Makers
Ages: 7-9 years old
When: Tuesdays 11:00am-12:00pm July 16-August 6 (4 weeks)
Leaders: Kelsey M, Music Therapist & Samantha W, Art Therapist
Cost: $150
Description: This experiential group will create instruments, music, and art. Each week participants will make their own instruments and engage in experiences that promote artistic and musical expression.
